Key takeaways
-
Boulevard runs scheduling, payments, memberships, and charting for med spas, but it does not have an AI scribe.
-
Boulevard's blog says they are "actively developing AI Scribe."
-
We built Symbal to record the patient visit, write a SOAP note, and fill Boulevard's chart fields with a Chrome extension.
-
You review and approve every note before it touches the patient chart.
-
Symbal costs $65 per provider per month, free for 7 days, no credit card required.
Your 2:30 tox patient is in the chair. You talk through the plan. You treat. You walk her out. Then you sit at the front desk computer and type the whole visit into Boulevard from memory. By the time you finish, your 3:00 patient has been waiting ten minutes.
Boulevard started in Los Angeles, the same city where we work. It is a practice management platform, not just a booking tool. Scheduling, payments, memberships, marketing, and charting all live in one place. That's why so many aesthetic practices run on it.
The one piece Boulevard is missing is an AI scribe. Their blog says the team is "actively developing AI Scribe." Until it ships, your note still has to get into the chart by hand. That's the gap we built Symbal to fill.
Who uses Boulevard?
Boulevard is built for appointment-based businesses, especially med spas and aesthetic practices. If your practice runs its front desk, memberships, and Forms and Charts in one system, you're on Boulevard. Your Book Now link probably goes to a blvd.app or boulevard.io address.
Providers on Boulevard chart inside Forms and Charts. That's where treatment forms, note templates, medical history, vitals, and session notes live. It's also where the typing happens after the last patient leaves.
Does Boulevard have an AI scribe?
No. Boulevard's own blog describes AI Scribe as something they are "actively developing." That's a clear way of saying it hasn't shipped yet. We're not going to guess at a launch date, and neither should you.
Every Boulevard practice gets notes into the chart one of two ways today:
-
Typing the note from memory after the visit.
-
Using a separate scribe and pasting. Twofold's med spa page says users "copy and paste finalized notes" into Boulevard.
Both work. Both put you back at the keyboard after the patient leaves.
What fields does Symbal fill in Boulevard?
Symbal is ambient clinical documentation for med spas and aesthetic practices. You tap record on your phone, tablet, or Chrome extension. Symbal transcribes the conversation and writes a structured SOAP note.
Then the Chrome extension does the real work. It reads the same Forms and Charts page you see, finds the right boxes, and fills them. In Boulevard, that covers:
-
Treatment forms for the service you performed.
-
Note templates your practice already uses.
-
Medical history, including updates the patient mentioned.
-
Vitals.
-
Session notes for the visit.
The extension moves between tabs and opens sub-modals inside Boulevard on its own. Boulevard is one of three EMRs we've hard-mapped and tested field by field, alongside Aesthetic Record and PatientNow. There's no API integration and no vendor partnership. It works because it reads the screen the way you do.
How do you set up Symbal with Boulevard?
You install the Chrome extension and log in to both accounts. The rest takes five clicks.
-
Add the Symbal Chrome extension.
-
Log in to Symbal and Boulevard in the same browser.
-
Open the patient's chart in Boulevard.
-
Click Autofill in the extension.
-
Review every field.
-
Approve, and the note is in the chart.
Symbal syncs your calendar. The day's schedule shows up in the extension, and each session lands there ready to autofill. If you want to check something from a prior visit, the "Ask AI about this patient's history" feature answers from your earlier notes.
What happens when Boulevard builds its own scribe?
You use whichever tool writes the better note for you. We work together, not against. Symbal sits on top of Boulevard and writes into the same fields you would type into. Nothing in your Boulevard account changes. Nothing in Boulevard has to change for Symbal to work.
What we built goes past the note. Symbal's "Beyond the Chart" feature captures personal details a patient mentions, like a career win, a son's new school, or a pilates certification. It surfaces those details at the next visit. That's the part of the visit no chart field was designed to hold.
What are the limits of Symbal?
Symbal needs Chrome to autofill chart fields directly. Here's what else you should know:
-
The extension runs in Chrome. If you chart in Boulevard from a browser, it works. If you chart somewhere the extension cannot see, the Symbal app gives you the full note to copy.
-
Every note is a draft until you approve it. Read it. You are the clinician of record.
-
If a field cannot be filled, the extension shows a copy-paste box with the full note content so nothing is lost.
-
We do not publish time-savings or accuracy numbers, because we do not yet have data we can stand behind.
-
California is an all-party consent state for recording conversations under Penal Code 632. Other states commonly listed include Florida, Washington, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Confirm the rules for your state and verify with a healthcare attorney.
Is Symbal HIPAA compliant?
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement at signup. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 and above, and at rest using AES-256. AWS hosts our infrastructure in the US, Oregon region. Deepgram handles transcription and OpenAI handles note generation, both under signed BAAs.
Audio is kept 30 days by default, configurable by the practice, then hard-deleted. There's a per-patient do-not-record flag. Deletion on request happens within 72 hours. An audit log is available on request, and breach notification happens within 5 business days. Symbal does not train AI models on patient data.
How much does Symbal cost?
Symbal costs $65 per provider per month, or $52 per provider per month billed annually. There's one plan. Every feature is in it, including the Chrome extension and Boulevard autofill. Cancel anytime. Multi-location groups can contact us for custom pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Boulevard's permission or an API key?
No. The extension reads the page you're already logged into, the same way you do. There's no integration to request and no partnership involved.
Will Symbal change anything in my Boulevard account?
No. It fills fields in the chart the same way typing would. Your forms, templates, and workflows stay as they are.
What happens when Boulevard ships AI Scribe?
Use whichever tool writes the better note for you. Symbal will keep filling Boulevard fields, and Beyond the Chart and Ask AI keep working either way.
Does it work on my phone?
You can record on your phone or tablet. The autofill step runs in Chrome on a computer, because that's where the extension lives.
