Which med spa EMRs work with AI scribes?

    Spencer Tolleson · CEO at Symbal · September 17, 2026 · 7 min read

    Key takeaways

    • Some med spa EMRs have their own AI notes built in. Boulevard does not yet. Aesthetic Record, PatientNow, and Zenoti do.

    • "Works with an AI scribe" can mean three different things: a draft note you paste, a note pushed into the chart, or fields filled in the chart.

    • We built Symbal with hard-mapped autofill for Boulevard, Aesthetic Record, and PatientNow. Other browser EMRs run in generic mode.

    • You can tell which EMR a practice uses in about 10 seconds from its Book Now link.

    • Adding a new EMR to Symbal's hard-mapped list takes about 2 to 3 days of engineering.

You are shopping for an AI scribe and every vendor page says the same thing: works with your EMR. Then you sign up and find out they meant you can copy and paste text into a box.

This is an honest compatibility guide for 12 EMRs that med spas and aesthetic practices commonly use. We cover which ones built their own AI notes, what those notes actually produce, and how Symbal fits in. When we do not know something, we say it. No guessing.

What does "works with your EMR" actually mean?

There are three distinct levels of EMR integration, and they are not created equal.

    • Draft note. The scribe writes a note in its own app. You copy and paste it into your EMR. Twofold's med spa page, for example, says users "copy and paste finalized notes" into Boulevard, Aesthetic Record, PatientNow, and others.

    • Note pushed into the chart. A browser extension drops the finished note into a note field. Freed's Chrome extension does this for browser EHRs on its Premier tier ($119 per month, per their pricing page).

    • Fields filled. The tool reads the chart and fills the specific fields: treatment forms, note templates, medical history, vitals, session notes. This is what Symbal does on its hard-mapped EMRs, and what Zenoti's own scribe does inside Zenoti.

Ask vendors which level you get for your specific EMR. Do not settle for a vague "yes."

Which med spa EMRs support AI scribes?

Here is how 12 common med spa EMRs handle AI scribes today.

Look at the top rows. Boulevard is a practice management platform that has not shipped a scribe as of September 2026. Aesthetic Record's ChartSmart costs $30, $50, or $75 a month per account. PatientNow does not publish a price for its scribe. Zenoti sells its AI Scribe by demo to larger groups.

Why is hard-mapped autofill better than copy-paste?

Hard-mapping means our engineers manually mapped every field in that EMR's chart and tested the fill.

The extension knows where medical history lives, which tab holds vitals, and which sub-modal opens the treatment form. That is why we stand behind Boulevard, Aesthetic Record, and PatientNow, and not the rest.

We run on a strict internal rule. If an integration is only 95% accurate, 1 out of 20 forms breaks. A provider seeing 20 patients a day hits a broken chart every day. That is unacceptable in a medical record. We do not call an EMR supported until it is mapped and tested.

How does generic mode work on other browser EMRs?

Symbal uses generic mode for any browser-based EMR we have not hard-mapped yet.

The AI scans the open screen, finds the matching inputs, and attempts to fill them. It gets 3 retries. If it fails to map the form correctly, it falls back to a copy-paste box with the full note, so you never lose the content.

We have not tested generic mode field by field on the EMRs in that table. We will not pretend we have. Set up a demo patient and test it during your trial.

How can you identify a practice's EMR in 10 seconds?

You can usually spot a practice's EMR by checking the web address attached to its Book Now button.

    Look at the URL:

    • blvd.app or boulevard.io means Boulevard.

    • booking.mangomint.com means Mangomint.

    • myaestheticrecord.com means Aesthetic Record.

    • zenoti.com means Zenoti.

    • vagaro.com means Vagaro.

It is not foolproof. Some clinics embed a third-party widget, and others use separate tools for booking and charting. But it works often enough to be the first thing to try.

How do you set up Symbal on a supported EMR?

Setup happens in the browser and takes a handful of clicks.

    • Add the Symbal Chrome extension.

    • Log in to Symbal and to your EMR in the same browser.

    • Open the patient's chart.

    • Click Autofill.

    • Review every field.

    • Approve.

You review and approve every note before it touches the chart. That holds in every mode, hard-mapped or generic.

    What are Symbal's current limitations?

Here is what Symbal cannot do today.

    • Only three EMRs are hard-mapped. Everything else is generic mode or copy-paste.

    • The extension is Chrome only. iPad apps and installed desktop programs are not browsers, so the path there is copy-paste from the Symbal app.

    • "Check current vendor page" in the table means exactly that. Vendors ship scribes quickly, and we would rather send you to their page than print something stale.

    • We do not publish time-savings or accuracy numbers for Symbal. Every number in this post is a vendor's claim about itself.

    • Recording consent rules vary. California is an all-party consent state (Penal Code 632), and states like Florida, Washington, Illinois, Maryland, and Pennsylvania are commonly listed too. Confirm for your state and verify with a healthcare attorney.

    Frequently asked questions

My EMR is not listed. Can I still use Symbal?

If your EMR runs in a browser, generic mode will try to fill it and fall back to a copy-paste box if it cannot. Recording, the SOAP note, Beyond the Chart, and Ask AI all work regardless of EMR. Test it during the free week on a demo patient.

What does generic mode mean in plain terms?

The AI looks at the page, finds fields that look like the right ones, and fills them. It tries up to 3 times. If it cannot, you get the full note in a box to paste yourself.

How long does it take to add an EMR to the hard-mapped list?

About 2 to 3 days of engineering per EMR. If your practice or group is on an EMR we have not mapped, tell us which one, because that is how we pick what to map next.
